There are still quite a few older style boilers around in domestic properties and these would be very heavy and could not be mounted on a wall or in cupboard and will probably an open flue style of boiler. This type would take a fair bit of the combustion air required from its local area, in other words the room it is sat in. When that burning takes place, its fumes drift naturally up and away via a flue open into the room. These were and still are a dangerous option if any problems occur. A Streatham Plumber is experienced in open-flued boilers. There were fans fitted to the flue to force the fumes out of the house and they fitted lots detectors to the burner so that the boiler shuts down as soon as there is a sign of any poisonous gases discharging. Great ideas, that could save lives, if they work, so it was very important to keep an close eye on the boiler. The design of boilers has gone through quite a big change over the years both in looks and in their operation, now having good safety records.

Ventilation:

Ventilation is of course of great importance, because of the way an open flue boiler works. You usually need additional ventilation, as the air is taken from and vented to the room. Streatham Plumbers can fit extra ventilation if required. Now if you just open a door it will mean that the room will get cold, so people thought that being poisoned was better than being cold and covered any vents also. As well as being covered purposely which is a stupid thing to do, these vents can also be blocked accidentally for instance by someone moving the settee against it.

Poor ventilation means poor burning and in turn the production and discharge of carbon monoxide, which has no taste, smell and is totally invisible. tasteless, and is deadly when inhaled!
