Connecting a branch to a vertical soil pipe is straightforward, and may have to be done at some stage in your homes plumbing history. The recommended way is to make the connection straight into the soil stack. To make the connection itself, a T shaped branch will needs to be fitted if your pipework is large. If not a piece called a Boss can be used. Streatham Plumbers have the correct tools for all plumbing jobs.Jointing to a plastic drainage pipe:a). Initially locate and purchase a strap on Boss, ensuring the correct size for the waste pipework. When you have this, you will be able to cut the correct size of hole into the building’s soil stack. Cut the hole with a hole saw which has a drill bit in the centre of a circular toothed cutting blade. You must make sure that the circular cutter is the correct size. A Streatham Plumber is qualified to do this.b). With everything in place and access to the soil pipe, make sure that the waste system is not used by anyone until completion. Make the hole at the correct place, always making the allowance for any sloping required. Water will be trapped if the Boss is fitted too high.c). Check that the Boss fits tightly with the pipe. Clean the mating surfaces to give a clean plastic joint. Now apply the correct solvent cement as per the guidelines given by the Boss manufacturer. Holding the fitting firmly, press it in and hold for the cement to set, probably 3-5 minutes. Job done.Note:There are designs of Boss that include an internal rubber ‘O’ ring to make the connection of the small waste pipe in the fitting, with some other types needing a cone made of rubber to be fitted for the connection. “
